Bio
Melinda is a Sydney based painter, painting across the genres of landscape and still life. Her contemplative and still oil paintings reflect a strong interest in colour and composition, always distilling subjects down to reveal their essence. She gains inspiration from a variety of sources, be it the objects she lives with, the Australian landscape or a simple view from her window. Often beginning the painting process making studies en plain air, in the studio the paintings are refined, and abstracted to reflect an emotive response to the subject and to the act of painting itself.
After a career as a Registered Nurse and whilst raising her three daughters, Melinda pursued her passion for painting by completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from the National Art School. She has exhibited frequently in both Solo and group exhibitions since that time. In 2015 she was the recipient of the three month Storrrier Onslow National Art School studio residency in Paris. She has also been a finalist in many art prizes, notably the Mosman Art Prize 2011, the Ravenswood Womens Art Prize 2017 and 2018, the Hawkesbury Art Prize 2019.
“Melinda draws our attention to slivers of reality sensed on the periphery of our awareness, framed and extracted to reveal pure forms and potent sensory memory. Her paintings record fleeting moments of beauty”
Margate Lamond, writer.
